The HP OfficeJet 3830 printer has the paper handling specification given here. Review the following information to check whether you are using the correct paper types, capacities, sizes, envelopes, photo paper, cards, labels, custom sizes and print margins and are not overloading the input tray

1. Paper tray capacities.
The paper size supported vary according to the tray when using the plain paper type. In tray 1, U.S. Letter: 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inches), U.S. Legal: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 inches), A4: 210 x 297 mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches), 216 x 330 mm (8.5 x 13.0 inches), U.S. Executive: 184 x 267 mm (7.25 x 10.5 inches), U.S. Statement: 140 x 216 mm (5.5 x 8.5 inches), B5 (JIS): 182 x 257 mm (7.17 x 10.12 inches), A5: 148 x 210 mm; (5.8 x 8.3 inches), 152 x 203 mm (6.0 x 8.0 inches), U.S. Government, Borderless A4: 210 x 297 mm; (8.3 x 11.7 inches), Borderless A5: 148 x 210 mm; (5.8 x 8.3 inches) and Borderless B5 (JIS): 176 x 250 mm; (6.9 x 9.8 inches)
Paper tray 2 supports U.S. Letter: 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inches), U.S. Legal: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 inches), A4: 210 x 297 mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches).
The output tray supports photo paper, labels up to 10 sheets, envelopes up to 5 envelopes, cards up to 5 envelopes and cards up to 10 cards. The automatic document feeder supported is up to 35 sheets.
2. Supported paper sizes
In paper tray 1, plain paper weight is 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond) with up to 250 sheets of plain paper (25 mm [1 inch] stacked), photo paper weight is 250 g/m2 (66 lb bond) with up to 100 sheets (17 mm [0.67 inch] stacked), envelopes weight 75 to 90 g/m2 (20 to 24 lb bond envelope) with up to 30 sheets (17 mm [0.67 inch] stacked) and cards weight up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index) with up to 80 cards.
In tray 2(this tray is optional), plain paper weight is 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond) with up to 250 sheets. In duplexer, paper weight is 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond). In automatic document feeder, paper weight is 60 to 75 g/m2 (16 to 20 lb bond) with up to 50 sheets.
In output tray, paper weight is 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond) with up to Up to 150 sheets of plain paper (text printing), photo paper weight is 250 g/m2 (66 lb bond) with up to 100 sheets, envelopes weight is 75 to 90 g/m2 (20 to 24 lb bond envelope) with up to 30 envelopes and cards weight up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index) with up to 60 cards.
- Supported envelopes
You can load envelopes in tray 1 only. The envelopes supported are U.S. 10 envelope, A2 envelope, DL envelope, C5 envelope, C6 envelope, Monarch envelope, Card envelope, Chou #3 envelope and Chou #4 envelope
- Supported photo paper
Avoid paper jams and other printer issues by using the correct type and size of the photo paper when loading in the main input tray. Follow the below given paper types and paper sizes.
The supported paper types are letter-sized photo paper, photo paper with sizes 10 x 15 cm (3.9 x 5.9 inches), 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7.9 inches), 76.2 x 127 mm (3.0 x 5.0 inches), 102 x 152 mm (4.0 x 6.0 inches), 127 x 177.8 mm (5.0 x 7.0 inches), 127 x 177.8 mm (5.0 x 7.0 inches), Photo 2L photo paper and Photo L photo paper.
- Supported cards
Check whether you are using correct type and size of index cards or card stock when loading the input tray to avoid paper jams and other issues. You should load card stock in the main input tray only. You can not use card stock in ADF for single and double sided printing as it is not compatible.
The paper sizes supported are A4 index card, Index card with size 76 x 127 mm (3.0 x 5.0 inches), 101 x 152 mm (4.0 x 6.0 inches) and 127 x 203 mm (5.0 x 8.0 inches), the index letter, Japanese post card and Ofuku Hagaki. Some of the sizes mentioned here are not compatible for borderless printing.
- Supported labels
You should check whether you are using the correct size and type of label sheets when loading in the input tray to avoid paper jams and other issues. The paper types supported are A4 sized sheets with size 210 x 297 mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches) and letter sized sheets with size 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11.0 inches).
- Supported custom sizes
Custom size papers are supported only in Mac operating systems. The paper size is 88.9 x 127 mm (3.5 to 5.0 inches) to 215 x 355.6 mm (8.5 to 14.0 inches). You should check whether the dimensions fall within the parameters to avoid paper jams an other issues when printing on non standard custom paper sizes.
- Print margins
The document’s margins must match with the margin setting listed for the portrait orientation to avoid printing errors.
