HP Deskjet 2624 Ink Cartridge Error - 123.hp.com/dj2624

This is the guide to resolving any printing error that involved your Ink Cartridges for your HP Deskjet 2624 printer. This guide aids when you see an Ink Cartridge error appears on your computer screen or when both the Ink Levels icon and the Ink Alert lights are ON or blinking in the front panel. Step 1: Ensure if you have installed compatible Ink Cartridges

If you have installed the wrong ink cartridge to your HP printer then you will see the ink cartridge error display. You can check out the HP SureSupply website to look if the installed ink or toner cartridge are compatible or buy a cartridge to replace or to buy other supplies for your HP Printers.   1. Visit the HP SureSupply website.
  2. When asked to select your country/region, select your appropriate country/region.
  3. Now go ahead and do as instructed on your screen to order any new parts or cartridges or to check if the cartridge you installed is the right one.

You could also get original HP cartridges and supplies from other retailers. To buy the right ink cartridges through other retailers, make note of the model numbers of the following ink cartridges that are compatible with your HP Deskjet 2624 printer.

Step 2: Ensure that the Ink Cartridges are properly installed

If your printer’s ink cartridges are not fitted into your printer properly then that might be the reason why the ink cartridge error occurs. Detach the ink cartridge from the printer, look out for any plastic tape and remove it and then go ahead to reinstall the ink cartridges and then print it again.

  1. Power OFF the printer by pressing the Power button, if the printer is not turned off.
  2. Pull open the front external cover door of your printer.
  3. Pull out the ink cartridge door that triggers the printing carriage to move over to the center of the printer. Hold on until the carriage becomes silent and still before moving onto the next step.
  4. Hold down on the ink cartridges to release them off the carriage, now go ahead and take out the cartridge from the printer.

Caution:  Make sure that you don’t touch the copper-colored contacts of the cartridge or the ink nozzles. Touching those parts can lead to clogs, ink failure, or bad connections electrically.

  1. Pull out any protective tape that you might find on the nozzles of the printer cartridge.

Caution:  Don’t pull out the copper electrical strip.

  1. When trying to put back the cartridge into the carriage, hold the cartridge by the sides and with your nozzles facing towards the slot. Now ensure that the ink cartridge is pushed into the correct slot.
  • The slot on the left side is for the tri-color ink cartridge.
  • The slot on the right side is for the black ink cartridge.
  1. Press down on the ink cartridge in the direction inward to the printer until the ink cartridge correctly clicks into place. Finish the ink cartridge installation process easily by visiting 123.hp.com/dj2624
  2. Now go ahead and follow the steps mentioned above to replace other cartridges also.
  3. Close shut the door that covers the ink cartridge access.
  4. Shut close the outer door that covers the printer front.

Even now if you still see that the error persists then continue towards the next instruction below.

Step 3: Getting the ink cartridge contacts cleaned properly

You might face an ink cartridge error in cases where there are impurities and dirt on the surface of your ink cartridge contacts. You will need to remove any cable or power cords, then take out the ink cartridges before cleaning the ink cartridge contacts on the ink cartridges and print carriage.

Caution:  Clean one ink cartridge at a time and do not keep the ink cartridge left in the open for more than 30 minutes to avoid drying.

  1. Collect the following items which you will need to get the contacts cleaned:
  • Any dry foam-rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any other soft material that doesn’t come apart or leave fibers threads. (You can also use coffee filters)
  • Some distilled, boiled, filtered water. (Avoid using tap water for cleaning since that can have contaminants that could damage the ink cartridges)

Caution:  Don’t use platen cleaners or alcohol to get the ink cartridge contacts cleaned. These can damage the ink cartridge or even the printer.

  1. Turn on the printer by pressing down on the Power button.
  2. Pull open the front external cover door of your printer.

  4. Pull out the power cord from the back of the printer.
  5. You will also need to pull out the USB cable from the back of the printer if your printer is connected to a wired network.
  6. Hold down on the ink cartridge part like a press down and this gets the cartridge off the carriage from the slot.

Caution:  When taking out the ink cartridges, don’t pull out both the cartridges all at once, but instead remove it one at a time. Also, ensure that you clean the cartridges one at a time and do not leave the cartridge outside of the printer for more than 30 minutes.

  1. Make sure that you are holding the ink cartridges by its sides.
  2. Examine the cartridge’s contact surfaces for any dirt or dust particles that could’ve been built up in time.

  1. Clean the contacts with dry cloth or other materials that do not leave any lint residue on the contact surface.

Caution:  Ensure you don’t clean any other surfaces on the cartridge other than its contacts. Also ensure that you don’t spread any ink or dirt particles anywhere else on the ink cartridge.

  1. Soak the cleaning material into some distilled water and then squeeze out any of the excess water that’s in it.
  2. Only clean the copper colored surfaces of the ink cartridges, once that is done, allow the ink cartridges to dry for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Lightly soak another cleaning cloth or lint free material with some distilled water and then squeeze out any of the excess water that is in it.
  4. Now use this cleaning cloth or material to clean the electrical contacts surfaces of the printer carriage that is seen inside the printer.
  5. Now clean the contacts seen in the carriage.
  6. You can use a clean new cloth to dry the cleaned surfaces of the carriage contacts, or you can leave it to sit idle for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned surface to dry.
  1. While holding the ink cartridge by its sides, ensure that you have got the side with the nozzles facing in the direction of the printer, fit in the ink cartridges into its appropriate slot.
  2. Place the ink cartridge snug into its right place and then push it in until it snaps into place.
  1. Follow these same steps to clean and reinsert the other cartridge for your printer.
  2. Close shut the door that covers the ink cartridge access.

  4. Plug back the power cable to the back of your printer.
  5. If your printer is not connected to a wireless network, then plug back the USB cable to the back of the printer.
  6. Now hold down on the printer Power button to switch on the printer if in case the printer does not switch on automatically.

If the error continues, then move onto the next instruction step.

Step 4: Taking out and inserting back the ink cartridges again

Follow the same steps that you followed when taking out and reinserting the ink cartridges that you performed previously in this troubleshooting guide.

Note:  Ensure that the ink cartridges are snapped firmly into the right slots.

 If the ink cartridge error continues to appear, then move onto the next instruction step.

Step 5: Remove any dirt or impurities off the ink cartridge contacts

Step 6: Restarting your 123 HP Deskjet 2624 printer

By restarting your printer sometimes you can fix the ink cartridge error.

  1. If you printer isn’t already powered on or running, then switch on the printer by pressing the Power button.
  2. Hold on till the printer becomes quiet and still before you continue to the next step.
  3. Once the printer is switched on and running, then pull out the power cord from the back of the printer.
  4. Pull out the power cord from the wall power socket.
  5. Hold on for about 60 seconds before moving onto the next step.
  6. Plug the printer’s power cord back into the power supply wall socket.

  8. If the printer does not automatically turn on, then switch on the printer by pressing the power button. There might be a warm-up period that the printer might go through. This can be noticed when the printer lights flash on and off, and the carriage might move.
  9. Hold on till the warm-up period completes and the printer becomes quiet & idle.

Step 7: Ink Cartridge Replacement

The Ink Cartridge replacement is usually indicated when the Ink Level icon is flashing. This is an indication to get the ink cartridge or ink cartridges replaced. If this is proof of a faulty cartridge or printhead, then there is a possibility that these might be under warranty.
To get the warranty status of your ink or toner, go to www.hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies, and then read through the limited warranty information for your supplies.

  1. If your printer isn’t already powered on or running, then switch on the printer by pressing the Power button.
  2. Into the input paper tray, load some plain white papers.
  3. Pull open the front external cover door of your printer.
  4. Pull out the ink cartridge door that triggers the printing carriage to move over to the centre of the printer.   5. Hold down on the ink cartridge part like a press down and this gets the cartridge off the carriage from the slot.

  1. Take out the new ink cartridge from its packaging and then take off its plastic tape.

Caution:  Ensure that you don’t remove the electrical strip made of copper.

Also, ensure that you don’t touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Make sure you don’t remove the protective tape on the contacts because handling of the contacts would cause clogs, ink failure and bad electrical connections.

  1. When trying to put back the cartridge into the carriage , hold the cartridge by the sides and with your nozzles facing towards the slot. Now ensure that the ink cartridge is pushed into the correct slot.
  • The slot on the left side is for the tri-color ink cartridge.
  • The slot on the right side is for the black ink cartridge.
  1. Press down on the ink cartridge in the direction inward to the printer until the ink cartridge correctly clicks into place. Finish the process easily by visiting 123.hp.com/dj2624
  2. Now go ahead and follow the steps mentioned above to replace the other cartridge also.
  3. Close shut the door that covers the ink cartridge access.
  4. Shut close the outer door that covers the printer front.
  5. Now follow any prompts that appear on your computer screen.
  6. Hold on for about 30 seconds to make sure that an alignment page is printed out.

Note:  An alignment page prints out automatically only when you install a new ink cartridge.

  • If the alignment page doesn’t automatically print out and the ink cartridge error persists, then you will need to service the printer.
  • If the ink cartridge error is fixed, then move onto the next step to align the ink cartridges.

Step 8: Aligning the ink cartridges

When you scan the alignment page you ensure that the printer aligns its ink cartridges and the printer is ready and setup to provide the best printing quality.

  1. Lift open the scanner lid.
  2. Lay down the alignment page with its print side facing down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. Make sure you have a look at the engraved guide next to the scanner glass to help you load the alignment page the right way.Now you can shut close the scanner lid.   3. Hold down or press the Start Copy Black button or the Start Copy Color button  on your printer’s control panel.
    The printer will now start aligning the ink cartridges.

Note:  If you notice that the alignment page fails to automatically print, you can get the alignment page printed using the HP Printer Assistant software (Windows) or the Printer Utility (MacOS or OSX).

After aligning the ink cartridges, your printer is now ready to print, copy, and scan.
If you still notice a printer ink cartridge error appear, then you can continue to the next step.

Step 9: Servicing the printer

If you have tried all the preceding troubleshooting steps and still see the issue persisting, you must get your printer serviced or replaced.
